OXCSSA Participating in 2011 Asian Food Festival
Co-ordinated by Oxford University Malaysian & Singaporean Student Association and Oxford University Asia-Pacific Society, starting 5th November last Sunday evening 7:00pm, the annual Asian Food Festival has attracted crowds of Oxonians to experience a night of exotic flavours in the Union Debating Chambers. Participating societies also included Vietnam Society in Oxford, Oxford University Hong Kong Society, Oxford University Japan Society ,Oxford University Malaysia Club, Oxford University Korea Society, Oxford Chinese International Awareness, Oxford University Taiwanese Student Society and our much-beloved OXCAAS–Oxford Chinese Students and Scholars Association.
The Chambers witnessed students walking in with great enthusiasm at the vast display of food offered by each Society. Malaysian Apam Balik, Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Japanese Sushi all had a good buy for their good tastes and more likely, their reasonable prices. The Korean style Barbecued Chicken and Jabche appeared rather tasty, yet frightened away their potential tasters for an over-budgeted price at three quits per portion. The situation was eased up when the price went down to two. On sell by the event organizers, the seemingly good Bubble Tea did not find much tea-lovers in the evening, which might have caused some distress to their suppliers.
Rather pleased to learn by the reporter, dumplings, soy milks and Coca Cola at our OXCAAS stall had cheered up lots of the students’ stomach. By 20:14pm, five hundred boiled dumplings were sold out and the fried dumplings with either chicken or pork filling went off soon afterwards. Our sells girls even began selling the drinks as substitutes while waiting for the rest of the societies finishing off theirs. The dumplings were sold and made a day ago by the Entertainment Department of OXCAAS, unlimited gratitude to their wonderful performance! Our president and counselor also attended the events and had stayed for assistance and instruction till the very end, acting very supportively to the stall-running.
All the food were consumed, with some of the remaining being freely and friendly distributed to everyone around the chamber at near 10:00pm. Farewell to the festival and we know we will have something great to expect the same time next year!
