By far, the most important festival in China is the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year. Every year, approximately 800 members of OXCSSA and students of other universities in south England gather in Oxford to celebrate this Festival. In 2008, We had about 800 audiences for Chinese New Year Celebration. From the University, we had the International Strategy Office, the Leadership Programmes for China, Students Funding and International Office, Oxford Press Office, and Computing Services, come to celebrate Chinese New Year with us. Out guest also include 10 Heads of Oxford Colleges and 18 of the City's councillors, including the Lord Mayor of Oxford John Tanner, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Oxford Stephen Tall. (News link)
Currently, OXCSSA is preparing for the 2009 Spring Festival event, which will be held in Januruary 2009 at the Sheldonian Theatre1 in Oxford. The programme includes traditional dancing and musical & drama performances. Invited guests include officials from Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University, representatives of local government, representatives of the Chinese Embassy in London, representatives of other OXCSSA and our sponsors.
OXCSSA has also organised a series of attractive social activities, including the welcome party, group travelling, fortnight OxBridge Forum, billingual debates. They play an important role in providing Chinese students and scholars a home-returning feeling as well as introducing Chinese cultures to students from other countries and local residents. We also work for scholars, policy makers, journalists, actors and the like, who regularly visit Oxford. These events have received extraordinary good feedback from students and scholars, such as the visit of Premier Wenjia Bao.
This year, OXCSSA continues committing itself to organise a wide variety of events. Together with the regular annual programmes listed on page 3, we will introduce a series of career's fairs, providing our memebers opportunities to discuss face to face with the successful elite in academia, industry and cooperate financial companies.
